👋🏼 hello 👋🏼
I’m Kale,
Yes, like the vegetable everyone hates! And yes, this is my real name.
I am originally from a city called Winnipeg, which is in Manitoba, Canada.
Teaching was my career before becoming a full time artist. I taught all subjects as a classroom teacher in a First Nations elementary, and art as a high school teacher. Though I loved working with young people, it wasn’t for me.
I moved to California in 2019 to learn how to tattoo. It’s been a wild journey to say the least. It’s taken me from LA to New York so far, I’ve met wonderful people and learned a lot.
Portraits and pop culture are what I gravitate to the most. Hearing clients’ stories and musical tastes are what I look forward to every day.
My background is a mix of Western European and Anishinaabe, aka Ojibwe. My indigenous heritage is very dear to me, and I continue to learn and be part of it - as the history of Canada has been extreme and divisive. I’m always open to chatting about these tough topics in the spirit of reconciliation.
