🎃 Halloween flash couple’s tats 🎃 Here’s a great example of the same design rendered differently, as a strategic approach to different skin complexions and placement areas. On the left is a tan lower leg that also grows thick hair. Both factors contribute to very intricate details and subtle textures being lost or looking muddy and illegible as the tattoo ages over time, so I opted for a slightly simpler approach. On the right is a very pale upper arm that almost never sees sunlight so I rendered the same design at the same size with increased levels of detail and texture, given that it has more clarity on this skin type and a better chance at avoiding aggressive deterioration over the years. At larger sizes, these considerations wouldn’t be so necessary, but since these are palm-sized tattoos I wanted to give each the best shot at success by making these small changes. Tattooers: if you care about the ethics of tattooing, educate your clients on longevity factors so they can make informed decisions and/or get the tattoo that’s best for their situation. Clients: if you don’t have deep knowledge of tattoo design theory or tattoo pigments and how they age in skin, trust your tattooer’s advice or explanations for their decision making.
