Story time! I love my clients. Everyone I get to tattoo are always the kindest and most empathetic people. However, I want to stress how important it is that people are that way because they are so open to empathy and learning. My wonderful client is a mom to her super sweet son who has autism and wanted a tattoo to represent him. He loves astrobot and she wanted to get a tattoo of that character holding a puzzle piece. However because the puzzle piece is a very controversial symbol for those with autism, I wanted to have an open dialogue with my client. I gently explained that due to it’s meaning of wanting to fix or cure autism rather than embrace and accept those with neurodivergence, I suggested we could replace the puzzle piece with a rainbow infinity instead since it is a more inclusive symbol. She LOVED that idea and said she had heard about the controversy around the puzzle piece, but wasn’t sure what to do instead. She was super excited about the change and loved the tattoo that we collaborated together to create. This is what a true ally looks like in any aspect of life. Openness, empathy, compassion, and a willingness to learn and grow. This story was also shared with her consent because I just thought it would be such a great story to share with yall! 💕 #autism #astrobot #neurodivergence #videogametattoo #ladytattooers
